  • Special Olympics Massachusetts in partnership with the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), Massachusetts School Administrators’ Association (MSAA) and the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) work to provide and promote climates of dignity, respect, and inclusion in schools for students with and without intellectual disabilities.

    Each bullet point is a required element for Unified Champion Schools. 

    Schools are encouraged to add to this list. Liaison oversees these components.

    UNIFIED SPORTS

    • Unified Sports® Interscholastic Team – Following rules and guidelines of SOMA & MIAA
    • Participate in practices and regular season interscholastic games for the 6-8 week season
    • Participate in season ending Jamboree or Meets.
    • Unified Team Varsity Sport. Members receive recognition at assemblies, events, and award/accolades.
    • Participate in survey evaluation process May

    YOUTH LEADERSHIP and YOUTH ACTIVATION

    • Attend Youth Leadership Conference featuring Schools & Unified Sports® training
    • Create or support a Unified Club.  
    • Promote inclusive leadership opportunities on other clubs, and foster leadership skills.

    WHOLE SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT

    • Organize & conduct a Spread the Word: Inclusion campaign event that includes the whole school community
